The Sacred Site of Archangel Barmael is Palenque, which is located at the beginning of the Tumbalá mountains in the vicinity of the Usumacinta River about one hundred thirty kilometers south of Ciudad del Carmen in Chiapas, Mexico. Smaller than either Tíkal or Copán, the medium sized Mayan archaeological site, was abandoned long before the Spanish came to the area. Once known as Lakam Ha, "Big Wide Waters", because of the many cascading waters and springs situated there, Palenque overlooks a great expanse of verdant jungle. Even though pottery remains dating from 300 BCE have been found, most of the building ruins were constructed sometime between the seventh and tenth centuries ACE. Thirty-four of the approximately five hundred structures at the Palenque site have been excavated and/or reconstructed. Many of the other ruins resemble small hilly mounds blanketed with lush jungle foliage. Archaeologists have called an extensive complex of artificial terraces, courtyards, sculptures, bas-relief carvings, and buildings that might have been an administrative center and housing complex for the aristocracy and the high priests, "The Palace". There was also a four story astronomical tower from which the Mayans observed the winter solstice sun set directly over the "Temple of Inscriptions". The Temple of the Cross, Temple of the Sun, and Temple of the Foliated Cross were named by early explorers. The cross type patterns they discovered on two of the stone bas-reliefs in the intricately carved inner chambers were actually Mayan depictions of the World Tree mentioned in Maya Creation Myths. The Maya depicted the World Tree as a regal towering tree. They venerated the star clouds of the Milky Way and the center of our galaxy near Sagittarius. Sometimes the World Tree was depicted by the Mayan more like the Cross where the ecliptic resembles a bar crossing the major axis of the World Tree. In the winter, the dry season, when the star clouds were not as bright, it became the White Boned Serpent. Every twenty years the rulers erected a stone tree, stela, with World Tree symbols, where the ruler connected himself to life and the sky. Once the capital of the B'aakal Mayan city state, the city achieved notoriety between the fifth to ninth centuries ACE. The Maya Ajaw Pacal, who ruled from 615-683 ACE, built a step pyramid and a temple with carved hieroglyphs which became known as the "Temple of Inscriptions" atop a Celtic style Mayan Benefactor Sacred Mound. A passageway was dug from the temple floor into the heart of the Sacred Mound. and the Sacred Mound was turned into a burial chamber for Pacal. There was stone over his tomb depicting the Popul Vuh Hero Twins achieving immortality. His successor was Chan Bahlum II. Like other Mayan cities, Palenque was mysteriously abandoned to be reclaimed by the Natural World landscape greenery. The powerfully serene landscape of large trees and travertine cascades was once graced with numerous Sacred Mounds. Most of what were called the Mayan step-pyramids were built over Celtic style Sacred Mounds left behind by the Lemurians who were the benefactors and teachers of the Mayan until they relocated to Orion and the Pleiades. The remnants of many Sacred Mounds remain scattered across the Mesoamerican landscape. Built of high quality stone work and covered with hallowed grass covered earth, most Sacred Mounds were a Divine Feminine Grail Cup Chamber that was part of the Sacred Shamanic Mysteries of the ancient Pleiadian Shamans who were Benefactor Mentors of the Maya and other Mesoamericans. The goal of the Pleiadian Shamans was for the physical bodies of the Maya and other Mesoamericans to complete the Divine Immortality Integration Process. They intended to restore wholeness to the individual divine light matrix of the Maya and other Mesoamericans utilizing Natural World elements like earth, stone, grass, and water, as well as, the hallowed sonics of chants and songs in conjunction with other ritual accoutrements and practices. Sadly, evil times befell the peoples of the Earth and the Pleiadian Shaman Benefactor Mentors of the Maya and other Mesoamericans had to relocate to the Pleiades. As the years passed, the Mesoamerican Sacred Mounds were defiled. During the early phases of the Third Maya World, Sacred Mounds were overlaid with pyramidal stone temples. The tops of the Sacred Mounds were scalped off, the ground leveled, and oppressive pyramidal structures placed upon the hallowed landscape wound that festered from repeated infections caused by discordant chants, hexes, curses, and similarly abusive spells, as well as, bloodshed from animal and human sacrifices. Over the course of time, these preexisting older temples were then in turn often overlaid with new stone structures. This was the "Dark Times" when the Maya were forced to built the stone pyramids over their Sacred Mounds and then coerced into doing sacrificial rituals To read more about the Third Maya World and Sacred Mounds please see the Creation Legends (Four Maya Worlds) and Sacred Mounds sections on, Maya Mayan Ancient Civilization.
